BUILDING A BETTER HUMAN

Purpose

Over the past several years author David Lowell has been meeting with licenced medical technician
and Gertrud Lola, discussing how members of Western culture can overcome rigid thinking to realize
our true potential in life.  After conducting years of research, M
r. Lowell and Mrs. Lola are certain
that modern reasoning creates unnecessary limitations in human development and these limitations
can be easily overcome.  The book intends to shed light on these issues and to propose real and
empowering solutions people can put into practice in their daily lives.

The Problem

Depression and disability are approaching epidemic proportions in America and there is no end in
sight.  The pharmaceutical industry has drugged the problem to death and the people that see
counselors seem to be on an endless treadmill making little progress.  People are trying to think
positive but they are simply surrounded by frustrations.  They succumb to addictions, depression,
and anxiety in an effort to cope with the situation.  They fail in all of their attempts to feel better and
there seems to be no way out.

Unfortunately the solution to the problem evades most people because what binds you is not “what
you are thinking about” but rather “how you think”.  What makes loving life impossible for us is the
fact that we view a dramatic change from suffering to happiness as being impossible.  What people
don’t realize is that the concepts of your life and the universe as being rigid and difficult to change
have their source in the scientific method, developed in the 17th century.  As science has gradually
become more rigid in its approach to understanding the universe, so has our culture’s view of the
universe also become more rigid.

While positive thinking and vision boards could help a person, they will have little effect if a person
doubts their credibility.  As doubt creeps in he/she will affirm the rigidity of the situation stating, “I
knew it wouldn’t work!”  As a logic-based culture, we find it difficult to transcend what are identified
as “scientific facts” when we meditate.  Therefore on the conscious level we need to combat
science with science and ancient wisdom to show that fringe science is only fringe because the
mainstream is not ready for the truth.

Summary

The book begins with proving to the reader just how limited modern reasoning is.  We explain the
evolution of modern reasoning starting with the modern scientific method.   We then move on
examine the world of ancient cultures to gain insight on how they may have had a very different view
of the universe and how it empowered them.  We discuss the flawed reasoning proposed by
archeologists that all ancient cultures (over thousands of years) were less knowledgeable and wise
to the mechanisms of the universe than we, which has its basis in egocentric thinking.  In fact, the
ancients appear to have had a far greater understanding of the universe and our important role...
and it is only the limited scope of our “modern” reasoning that leads us to think otherwise.  They
understood that their thoughts, feelings, and intentions had a direct impact on the world around
them and they created a surrounding landscape to imitate the sky above.  While archeologists deny
this was the case, claiming the pyramids to have strictly functioned as tombs for dead pharaohs,
scientific discoveries are continuing to prove ancient wisdom was quite accurate.

In attempting to view the world through the eyes of the ancients, we begin to realize the awe and
wonder of the Living Universe.  It is this realization that allows us to confidently transcend our rigid
thinking and to properly map our path toward happiness on all scales.  With the understanding that
a change from the valleys of sadness to the peaks of happiness is not impossible, we identify the
key elements of living in balance physically, mentally and spiritually.  Finally we apply the key
elements in meditation exercises to ensure the change spreads beyond the conscious level to all the
levels of our being.
